Tobin sees this as his best chance to step out of the shadow of his brother and earn the respect and recognition he’s always desired.

This story details an early trial encounter between Tobin and his brother Kaz, both of whom wish be become Warleader for the Blue Island Clan. The results of this 'test' have direct implications for the first novel.
The writing is concise and the tale full of action and intrigue. Unfortunately having just finished the first book on the trilogy, I was aware of the outcome of this short adventure.
Conclusion:
A prequel for the first book in 'The Blood and Tears" trilogy.
Well written and nicely told.

Except this one. This story was awesome. It kept my attention from beginning to end. What's a sign of a good author? When he makes you feel the pain that the protagonist feels. What's a second sign of a good author? When you're disappointed that the story is over. What's a third sign of a good author? When you wish the story was longer. What's a sign of a good reader? You. If you buy this. It's 99 cents. C'mooon...you know you want to...
Very well written book. The characters in this story are well defined and believable. I found myself pulling for Tobin against Kaz and want to understand why Bazraki is so partial to Kaz. Can't wait for the book "Rise and Fall" to come out in December. I'm hooked and will definitely buy all of the books in this trilogy. Also love the graphics on the bookcover!
Vivid images and details coupled with a fast and exciting pace, this story grips you from the very first line and doesn't let go until the very end. The emotional intensity and anguish experienced by the main character is equally matched by his physical turmoil as he undertakes a potentially life-altering mission.
The events of this story unfold before your eyes like a movie. A great read. Can't wait for the book!
Creative storytelling that does not rise to the level of epic tale, although the potential is there. The author has created an intriguing island setting with warring tribes and an ongoing conflict between two "brothers" who aspire to the position of Warleader. Overall it is well crafted but comes across as rather sophomoric. Perhaps it is best read by teens.
' He shouldered past Tobin. "This isn't over, brother..." Popular theme pitting brother against brother in this short, brutal book that gave you enough of a glimpse as to the warring combatants to make you want to read more of the series. I did enjoy it and would like to read more!
I liked this book. There's a struggle between two brothers. Kahs is sadistic. He has no respect for Tobin. Tobin craved his father's love and respect and he got none. A test of warriors was to determine the Warleader. The only way Kahs could win was by cheating. Kahs is very cruel. He injured Tobin and left him to die. Tobin's spirit is broken but he managed to survive. This is a good read. Lots of action. Tobin had problems with Kahs lack of humanity.
